I’ve been waiting all winter for Italian sausage with peppers and onions. The first chance I had this summer i ran to my local butcher shop, picked up some hot Italian sausage and fire roasted peppers. Sausage and peppers makes the perfect meal for grilling and if you make it this way, you don’t have to spend an hour or more slicing, cooking, sauteing all those peppers and onions.
how to make sausage with peppers & onions
You can use fire roasted peppers and Big Lou’s Onion Sauce as a base and add to it. I recommend warming them quickly in a pan with a dash of white wine which can add a nice depth of flavor. For this recipe I enjoyed them right out of the jar to get your sausage and peppers from the grill to your mouth in as little time as possible.
Here’s what you need to make Italian Sausage with Peppers & Onions:
- 1 loaf Italian bread
- 1lb sausage (I prefer the hot) from Tony’s Meat Market
- 1 jar fire roasted peppers from Giunta’s Meat Farms 1 jar
- Big Lou’s Garlic Onion Sauce
Get your grill screaming hot to at least 400 degrees. Brown sausages on all sides.
Pro tip: cut your sausages in half to get em crispy inside and out.
Slice you bread, add sausage, add 2 tablespoons garlic onion sauce, add sliced of fire roasted red peppers and enjoy!
It couldn’t be any easier than that!
