This part of our Big Food Talk series where we feature food products that are making an impact. In this installment I’m super excited because today I’m going to unbox my first Butcher Box. Butcher Box is a subscription service that delivers 100% grass fed grass finished beef directly to your door.
I’ve personally been dying to get my hands on one and test it out.
How Does Butcher Box Arrive
They give you some great instructions right here on the box. For instance, did you butcher box arrive with dry ice? Yes or no? It talks about temperature of your package and the meat and whether or not it is safe to consume. Obviously shipping meat through mail service comes with a set of challenges and Butcher Box seems to have their bases covered.
My Butcher Box arrived frosty cold and all of the meat was frozen and you could still see the dry ice. Each package comes vacuum sealed and frozen solid as a rock.
With my subscription I’ll receive a new box every month. You can select different add-ons such as bacon, salmon or ribs. They have a wide variety of beef, pork and poultry products to make the box that’s right for you and your family.
What’s In My Butcher Box
First up out of the box are two boneless pork loin chops they’re both one pound each (correction there were 4 boneless pork chops, 8oz each). The packaging clearly states there are no antibiotics or growth hormones ever as expected.
Next up out of the box is two 10oz strip loin steaks! They looked absolutely gorgeous with a nice piece of fat around the outside which make them perfect for grilling.
One of the freebies that came in my box was a treat. I received a 5lb bone-in pork butt which I’ll get going in my smoker as soon as possible.
As if that weren’t enough, I also received grass fed beef top round steak which is a true premium cut that you want to handle with some care. With a good amount of salt and a high heat on the grill these top round steaks should be cooked to a medium rare and paired with your favorite red wine.
I also received two grass fed boneless chuck roasts that ended up making the perfect pot roast! Each weighed just over 2lbs and I was able to fit both of them in my crock pot along with potatoes and veggies.
Lastly we have 3lbs of organic boneless skinless chicken breasts. I couldn’t be more impressed with how it was packaged and presented.
Grass Fed & Grass Finished Beef
Butcher Box is known for their grass fed ground beef because it’s such a steal at this price. With the high quality you’re receiving it’s hard to beat. We received 2lbs that could be used for everything from hamburgers to tacos to meatballs.
There’s no doubt in my mind that grass fed beef is better for you. Keep in mind, all of the meat that Butcher Box provides is also grass finished. It’s important to know where your food comes from and I love how transparent they are about their sources. Their mission is simple to make grass-fed beef (and now, heritage breed pork and organic chicken) more accessible than ever before.
